NVX can't copy file permission following f/w update 4.2.27

Hallo,
Updated firmware to 4.2.27 on the ReadyNAS NVX.
On release it was stated that: "This update includes an updated Bash to fix the "ShellShock" vulnerability amongst other changes".
Prior to this update (since purchase) copying of NTFS file security info worked OK.
Program being used for automatic backup is SmartSync 3.4. This program now reports below errors, even though correct options are checked within it and no changes were made of any sort since it was all set up years ago..
The errors reported (and this goes for every file file being copied) are:
(date/time) - Unable to copy permissions from "C:\Users\ro\Documents\Invoices\" to "\\NVX\backup\daily\invoices\": This security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object.
What do I have to do to restore the previous functionality? Any ideas?
Operating system of machine being backed up is Win7 x64, Built 7601.
Security Mode: user
Kind Regards

  • Yes I did.
    Guy there is very helpful.
First he pointed to the firmware after looking at the logs (this was about time that I started this thread).
Then I contacted him again and he asked for copies of my SmartSync profiles and presumably, when he gets a bit of time, he might have some conclusions.
This last approach was only two or three days ago.

I am hoping that someone will have some answers, as I am out of my depth here.

The samba version in the 4.2.27 firmware and the smb configuration files might be relevant for him.

    4.2.27 uses Samba version 3.6.24

So you can downgrade, but you will be missing some important security fixes (shellshock in particular).

Well, I downgraded to 4.2.26 and everything is back to normal.
I might have bash vulnerability but being behind a firewall and only on my home network with NAS actually being up for an hour every night, I am not that worried about security.
At least my backups are more useful.

    Thanks for your input.
I will monitor future MAS firmware updates in case they do fix it.
    Cheers
