Pro 2 disappears permanently from RAIDAR after setup

Hello all!

Been banging my head against the wall on this one.

We've got a pro 2 that used to work with no issues. Used to run file shares off of it and iSCSI for the lab at times.

At any rate, it sat un-used for some time and I'm now attempting to breathe some life back into it.

The web UI was un-reachable and was unable to SSH into the NAS. I conducted a factory reset (Didn't need anything on it). The device shows up in RAIDAR after the reset and I'm able to run through setup, but afterwards it complete disappears from RAIDAR and never comes back. This has been attempted on multiple networks. I'm assuming the NAS still uses DHCP by default after the setup is run, but looking in the DHCP leases shows that it hasn't even attempted to get an IP.

If they have a static address configured after setup, i haven't been able to find it in the manuals or online.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thank you.

  • Figured that was the case about the disk tools.

As far as data on the drives goes, there isn't anything on there that is needed. It's been factory reset several times and i'm just trying to get the darned thing working.
  • Thanks for the replies all!

I did one more factory reset to get it to show up in RAIDAR once again and now I'm running an erase operation, which is going to take a bit. Once that is done, I'll run a ReadyNAS disk check.

Outside of that, I'll attach the disks to a PC and remove the partitions and run health checks on them if the above doesn't yield some results.

    Will report back later.

    Thanks again!

Sent you a PM with an additional suggestion for if you still have issues after trying all that.
  • I have the exact same issue with a customers Pro2. Here is my scenario:

The disks were running full so we decided an upgrade was in order. The old drives were 1TB WD (certified by Netgear through their compability list), we replaced them with two 2TB (certified as well, brand new out of the box). At first the NAS showed up in RAIDar as stated above. After I initiated the Raid setup (Raid 1) it showed me the progress of the volume set up. As soon as it reached 100% the NAS disappeard. I thought this was working as intended since a pop-up told me that the NAS would be invisable to RAIDar for some time. I waited two to three hours and it didn't show up. I wen't to check on it and everything looked fine. The network LEDs were blinking away as well as the powerbutton staying solid blue with the disk LEDs staying solid green.
For troubleshooting purposes I looked up its DHCP adress and was able to ping it (verified that it was the correct adress by unpluging the RJ45 from the NAS and confimring that the ping droped). Thinking that something must have gone wrong I started a factory reset, having that the disks were brand new it didn't really matter. After doing this the NAS popped back up in RAIDar just to disappear in the same manner after the Volume was created. So in short:

I can ping the NAS just fine.
    Can't access it through RAIDar.
Can't access the WebUI (Web page cannot be displayed, tried several browsers).

Having that the disks are brand new would you recommend that I scan them as stated in earlier comments? I find it unlikely that it should be a disk problem.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)
PS. sorry for any typos .DS
