Pro Pioneer on 4.2.26 - New Drv 6 - Says Dead
I've been running without HD drive issues since the day the server was installed/released to market.
My drive 6 has apparently had a growing list of SMART disk errors, so I decided to replace the drive.
Now, it thinks the drive is dead no mater if I put the old drive or the new drive in it.
It does say that is it rebuilding the volume, but never seems to do anything.
Health window always shows drive #6 as dead with no temperature reading. But, I can hear the drive spin up when its inserted.
Is there some place where I can get more details on what is going on with this drive? Status & rebuild state?
I am not sure I trust the info in web front-end.
FYI - all drives in unit are Seagate 2TB ST32000542AS including spare
Thanks,
Branch

- vandermerweMasterDid you hot replace the drive?
Do you have a backup?
Was the drive formatted before you put it in, if so take it out, remove any partitions using a PC, then reinsert it.
Have you tested the drive with seatools (long or extended test)?
Have you tried removing the drive with the NAS on then reinserting with NAS on after a few minutes.
Have you rebooted with new drive in? - branchhAspirantInitially, I didn't hot replace; shutdown then replaced and hard rebooted
Then, I did a hot replace
Backup - no, its 9TB worth of info - nothing large enough to back up to
replacemtn drive was not formatted and came out of sealed Seagate packaging
yes, tried removing and re-inserting again with new drive
the unit display will say testing drive 6, then say passed, then notify of rebuilding in web front-end log; but then the unit display will show disk 6 failed - vol 6 unprotected
during the remove & replace - the web front-end will say that a disk was removed, new disk detected, then Data Volume will be rebuilt with disk 6
at the same time, the web front-end will show that disk 6 is dead in status, no temp reading
other than the 1 log entry saying that its rebuilding using disk 6, everywhere else shows disk 6 is dead and my volume is unprotected; nothing shows that its really doing the rebuild
I've run seatools against original disk 6 and replacement and neither drive shows up with any issues
confusing.... - branchhAspirantWas on the line with support for a while trying to deduce the issue
Bought another 2TB drive to continue to test my drive 6 slot - which kept showing bad drive no matter what
Ended up RMA the unit and cross-shipping a new unit
Thanks for the good service Netgear! I've been a happy customer for quite a while, going back to NV+ boxes and currently have 3 ReadyNAS boxes and will continue to buy them!
