Problem with second hand readynas duo V2

First, you should confirm that it is a v2. The labeling is misleading, so use this guide to tell: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/
The front panel procedures are different for different models. One workaround is to delete any partitions on your new disks (which can be done from Windows) and then install them in the NAS. It is automatically designed to do a factory install when the disks are blank.
Also, for future reference - there are two other ways to reset the network settings. An OS reinstall does that w/o harming data (and is also a boot-menu option). If you know the old network settings, you can also use a direct connect (attaching the NAS to your PC Nic) and temporarily configure the PC with a static address that is compatible.
RAIDar is designed to find the NAS even if the network settings are incompatible - it uses ethernet broadcast for discovery. Perhaps the PC firewall was blocking it???
