Question about NV+ v2 when adding drives in raid 0
I have a raid 0 setup on my NV+ v2 and im going to add a third drive to my 2 disk array. The question I have is do I have to format the existing 2 drives I have to add the third disk into the array. I know that some raid controllers let you do this but I dont know if the readynas one lets you do this, I hope it does so i dont have to backup my data.

If you are using Raid-0 on a two-drive array, I sure hope you have a backup. Failure of either drive will lose all your data.Noumenon wrote: I have a raid 0 setup on my NV+ v2 and im going to add a third drive to my 2 disk array ... I just dont want to rip all my cds and dvds again :(
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you add an additional disk you should be able to create another single disk RAID-0 volume, I think.
So do you currently have two RAID-0 volumes or one big RAID-0 volume? - evan2NETGEAR ExpertThe third disk can not add into the exist RAID 0 because RAID 0 doesn't support expansion, it will create a RAID 0 volume D if you add the third disk.

Both disk are in raid-0 so yeah its one big raid-0 volume.evan wrote: The third disk can not add into the exist RAID 0 because RAID 0 doesn't support expansion, it will create a RAID 0 volume D if you add the third disk.
So if I add the third disk it will just create a separate raid-0 array with that single disk ? And just out of curiosity what other raid configurations support expansion, thanks for your help. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserXRAID (and XRAID-2) are Netgear's modes for expansion.
If you ever do a factory reset, consider making each disk its own RAID 0 volume. That is much more reliable that what you have. (or get the extra disk, and use XRAID-2) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTo make each disk it's own RAID-0 volume you would do a factory default, open RAIDar, click setup, choose Flex-RAID and choose the JBOD option.
- NoumenonAspirantI just might have to go with the option you guys are suggesting
