RAID 1 on the rnd4210
Hi, I have 2 identical disks in my readynas. Under "volumes" it says: Configuration: Raid level 1, 2 disks Status: Not redundant. A disk failure will render this volume dead. Below where i can ...

It can be fussy on memory timing. Here's a link to memory that some folks on Amazon said worked: https://www.amazon.com/Memory-NETGEAR-ReadyNAS-RND4000-PC3200/dp/B009BSGWY0

Is the unit faster with 1 Gb compared to 256 Mb ?
Based on posts here, it is a bit faster as a file server with 1 GB, but the speed increase isn't huge. My own NV+ has the stock 256 KB RAM.

And the label on the unit says RND4210 V3, but as i can understand, there is no V3 ?
You have a v1 (sparc based) readynas. The v3 means that it is the third hardware revision for that NAS.
A v1 NAS runs 4.1.x firmware and has -100XXX in the part number. The XXX is either NAS or a country-specific code.

What i want is to have a functioning raid 1 configuration where there is a mirror, and if one of the disks goes bad, the other disk still have my data and the unit still function.
How can i achieve that ?
If you don't have a backup of the data, I suggest taking care of that first.
Then try removing the "spare" disk and reinserting it (with the NAS running). Let us know if that adds the "spare" to the array and starts a resync.
What disk model are you using?

Hi,
I have tried to remove the second disk, and it is not even spinning.
It is not trying to sync the disks when i reinserted the harddrive.
Im using 2 WD Caviar 1,5 TB.

Ok, i just installed the latest firmware 4.1.6 and that app. started the syncing process, because after it booted, it now says syncing in progress :)
Another thing is that i think the unit is extremely slow when transferring files, to/from the unit. Is there anything i can do to boost performance ? I tried to put in a 1 GB ram memory, but with that installed, it did not boot ? What is maximum ram for the unit ?

The syncing does slow it down, so performance will get somewhat better when that finishes.
It's a very old NAS - you can get ~15-20 MB/sec, you won't see more than that (even on gigabit).
FWIW, the current firmware is 4.1.16, so if you are running 4.1.6 you should update the firmware. Don't do that while the sync is running though.

Yes sorry, offcourse i meant 4.1.16.
After i applied that firmware it started syncing.
Do you know the maximum amount of ram i can put in it ?
