RAID 1 on the rnd4210
Hi, I have 2 identical disks in my readynas. Under "volumes" it says: Configuration: Raid level 1, 2 disks Status: Not redundant. A disk failure will render this volume dead. Below where i can ...

It can be fussy on memory timing. Here's a link to memory that some folks on Amazon said worked: https://www.amazon.com/Memory-NETGEAR-ReadyNAS-RND4000-PC3200/dp/B009BSGWY0

Is the unit faster with 1 Gb compared to 256 Mb ?
Based on posts here, it is a bit faster as a file server with 1 GB, but the speed increase isn't huge. My own NV+ has the stock 256 KB RAM.

Thank you very much.
I have the stock 256 mb installed, and when i copy large files, the copy process pauses every 100 mb. Please se this video. I copy a 1 Gb file from my computer to the NAS. It copys ca. 100 mb and then pauses, then copy another 100 mb, and then pauses etc. all the way through the copy process. Why is that, and what can i do to get rid of the pauses ?

Mikkel

This could be more about robocopy's buffering than the NAS.
Can you try Nastester and tell us what speed you see? http://www.808.dk/?code-csharp-nas-performance

No because if i do it in windows its exactly the same.
Stephen are you Danish ?
Yes i will try that :)

Also if i open my network drive in windows , and browse the folders, its takes soooo long time from double clicking a folder until it shows the folder content. You know the green bar in top of the window is progressing slowly like 15 seconds, befor it displays the folder content.
And then again if i click a new folder its the same. It takes like 10-15 seconds each time i go down one level . Its driving me nuts!

Part of this issue is because the CIFS/SMB protocol doesn't handle browsing well. Your v1 NAS is an old design (going back to 2006). Newer NAS have much faster performance.

Yes ok. I think i must buy a new one. Zyxel NAS326 has been testet to have exceptionally good performance/price ratio. I cannot live with the slowly browsing.
The NAS testprogram says that average write is 2 mb/sec and average read is 3 mb/sec.

Here is the detailed performance

Again, you are using an 11-year old NAS design. Netgear stopped manufacturing this model in 2011. Any new NAS will give you much better performance. The RN210 series is the current Netgear entry-level NAS, and it is capable of 100 MB/s throughput.
Thanks for the NAStester benchmark. It shows that either something is off with the NAS itself, or something is wrong with your network.
Can you give us some information on the network path between the NAS and the PC? Please let us know if it includes powerline or wifi links, and also the speed of each ethernet link.
Also download the log zip file from the admin web UI, and look at the disk health in disk_smart.log and the network statistics in network_settings.log
