RAID configuration? (present and future)

Hi there ... kinda new to this and tried reading but it won't go through my head :)

I have a new ReadyNAS NV+ with 2*2TB drives in it right now (this leaves 2 spare bays).

Questions:
1. Is RAID 1 automatically configured here? If not how do I do so?
2. When I go to add disks in the future is it possible to do so as follows:

Bay 1+2: 2*2TB, RAID 1 (mirror of each other - existing setup)
Bay 3+4: 2*2TB, RAID 1 (mirror of each other)

Thanks so much for your help! Sincerely appreciated!

    Do you have a v1 or a v2? Use this guide to tell: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/

The broad answer to your question is that the NAS uses XRAID by default. If you didn't explicitly tell the NAS to use flex-raid, adding more drives will result in the NAS converting your RAID-1 array to Raid-5.

If you really want two RAID-1 volumes you will need to go through the setup again, this time choosing flex-raid. Note that will be starting over, wiping your data and config. I suggest reading the manual before doing this.
  • Thanks Stephen - it's a V1 - i've been searching the manual for the Flexraid option but can't find it anywhere (or in the dialogue box) - no data so far fresh install (waited to get the config right before I dumped my stuff on there!). I'll try another forum search to see if i can find how to enable. Cheers for the help!
