Ok. So the VPD is indeed missing.
I'm not sure if the vpd showing in in the root in Sandshark's guide is a folder, or whether it is the vpd file itself. I'm tagging him, so hopefully he will answer.

vpd is a file at root of the actual boot flash. There must not be a vpd directory since it can't co-exist with the vpd file. My guess is that /proc/sys/dev/boot/info is created by the boot process from the data in the vpd file. Given it's in /proc/sys, it has to be put there by the system -- it's not a file on a drive (at least not in that location) .
