Ready Nas Duo failure
I have a Ready NAS Duo. On the bottom it states v2 but it does not say this on the front panel so reading other posts I am confused what version I have. Last week I had a series of powercuts. When I...

If you do decide on a used NAS, either a DuoV1 or NV/NV+ V1 will work for you. The rackmount 1000 and 1100 should, too, but most desktop users aren't really looking for a noisy rack-mount one. Several sellers on eBay are as confused as you as to what unit they have. If the front lable isn't visible in the photos, look at the rear and compare it to yours. The V2 looks very different from the back.

Thanks Sandshark, it's confusing but I have ordered a used unit from eBay which appears the same as mine so will see how I get on.

Following prevoius thread. I ended up getting the data professionally recovered from my old ReadyNAS and now have it on a Seagate flash drive.
I have purchased another (used / reconditioned) ReadyNAS Duo V1 and set it up on my system. I can see it and access it BUT I can only copy files to it, NOT folders. This applies if I am trying to copy a file from my MACbook or the new Seagate drive.
I have tried copying & pasting and drag & drop, both with the same result. It starts the process then comes up with error "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)." The folder appears on the share but no files and then it stops, so I cant set it up to copy multiple folders/files. I can manually add files to the folder it's created but this is going to take forever to transfer all the data.
This happens in all the shares, even a new test one I set up.
I am using AFP mode which seem to be the only one my computer will connect in, even though I have set up CIFS and NFS on these shares. I have checked the configuration of the shares and they are set to 'read & write', and I have tried both logged in as admin and as guest. Its driving me mad.
Any suggestions?

First, look at the security mode pages and make sure you are using user security. Assuming you are, then
Go to the AFP page for the share.
- Scroll down to the "advanced permissions", and check the "automatically set permissions" checkbox.
- Set the 4 permissions underneath that checkbox to "read/write"
- Click "Apply"
Next, go to the "advanced options" tab in the share settings.
- Set the owner to nobody and the group to nogroup.
- Set the two permissions underneath that to "read/write".
- Check the "set ownership and permission..." and "grant rename and delete privileges..." checkboxes
- Click Apply
After a short wait there should be a pop-up message telling you that the operation is complete.

Hi StephenB, thank you for your prompt reply.
First, look at the security mode pages and make sure you are using user security. - on the security tab I have Admin Password, which I have reset to my own, and User & Group Accounts, which I have none set up - Is this OK?
On tha AFP page I do have the 4 permissions set as you suggest to read/write.
On the advanced options tab, I was sat up OK with the nobody and nogroup, but had not done "Check the "set ownership and permission..." and "grant rename and delete privileges..." checkboxes - So I have now tried to do this but, if I tick the first checkbox - set ownership and permission.... it takes a tick, but when I hit the apply button, I get the round timer display then the tick disapears.
I can tick the second box - grant rename.... and this stays tickedwhen applied.
Still the same situation, error message and only the folder, not the files in it, get copied.
Should I be trying to work with a different protocol?
