ReadyNAS 102.... Apps not installing

Hey All,

I just bought a 102 and am unable to install any applications from the FrontEnd. In all cases (Plex, Anti-Virus Plus, Ready Surveillance, Jeeves .... 5 others) the application download appears to start but the status bar only shifts a cm or 2 before disappearing. Followed by an alert "Failed to install application 'Plex Media Server' or what ever app i try.

Hard Drives are 2 x 3TB (ST3000DM001)

Have tried
*3 factory resets
*OS 6.1.1 through to 6.1.4 (Performing a factory reset each time)
*Switching from RAIDX to FLEX RAID
*Turning Genie+ on/off
*Uploading plexmediaserver-ros6-binaries_0.9.8.17.282-c844f09_amd64 manually on the front end. The upload seems to complete and i have even seen and alert saying the app has installed correctly but when looking at the "installed Apps' there is nothing shown.

There is no data on the device so I am willing to try anything to get at least Plex Server on there. I have spent the last 3 days reading posts on this site and the Plex site seeing some really good knowledge from StephenB, chirpa, mdgm and super-poussin and I am hoping someone can shed any light on this issue?

End Goal is having Plex server installed (I know 102 cannot transcode), but I am not sure that Plex will work on a 102 with 6.1.4?

PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Hi aVe2000,

I had taken a look at your post a couple of times but thought it slightly above my Linux skills and also knowledge of the Nas configurations in general as I was trying to learn as much as I could as fast as I could. All this being said I am planning on trying your approach once the current plex install beds in and I'm comfortable with its use. (I have 2TB of movies currently being added to the database)

    Many thanks
  • IF you installed the app successfully the first time that's normal the older version fails since you already have something newer. But the older version may have scripts that the newer one don't which would cause the app to appear in the interface.
Can you check your app version please (I don't know if plex shows its version somewhere in the interface), I would be curious to know (just for the sake of knowing ;) ) if it has replaced the newer version or just updated some configuration.

    Hi J0nnyP,

i made this as easy as possible. My first approach was to list many commands. Now its all in a script file. You simply have to call the script. Please be sure to check the troubleshooting section. Seems like everybody tested it is fine with the current script.

@xeltros: there is no official newer version for our device. Its still the same as released for the first time. And this is very buggy. If you follow the advice from the readme for readynas os 6.1.5 and reset to factory defaults then you should be fine with it. Even if you upgraded it the 'dirty way' i did with the script.

Dont forget to backup the settings before and reinstall them after the reset. It makes things much easier.

    Regards.
  • Hi aVe2000,

Just wanted to say a huge thanks, I finally had a crack at the upgrade tonight. ReadyNas 102, OS 6.1.5 using PlexMediaServer-0.9.8.18.290-11b7fdd-arm downloaded from the Plex website.

I needed to follow troubleshooting step 1 and then rerun the commands. The plex web interface appears to be behaving itself too!!

    Thanks again.
