Firmware is 6.4.0 (don’t want to upgrade yet, when I upgrade it usually fails)
Drive is powered from an AC adapter
Single partition
Front usb has another drive plugged in that does mount

Since it could be a USB port failure, you should first try swapping the two drives, and see what happens. Properly eject the front-port drive of course.
Netgear did upgrade the Paragon drivers (which are used for NTFS-formatted drives) after 6.4.0, so I think upgrading is the logical thing to try. Some of these changes were made in around 6.5.x, You'd need to upgrade to 6.5.2 before moving forward to current releases anyway. So if both ports are functioning, upgrading to 6.5.2 would be the next step.
- yahtzeeOct 14, 2018TutorI did a restart and now the front USB drive mounts. The odd thing is that it was formatted on my Windows PC and it mounts and shows as 4 differently named hard drives, although they all seem to be the same HD

Do you know how many partition are on it? You can see this with the windows disk manager (which calls partitions "volumes").

Windows Disk Manager shows my only local drive, and attached backup and storage drives.
When I expand the Network I can see the Netgear NAS and the attached USB drives.
The attached USB drives are listed as -
usb_hdd_2 (this is the USB HD attached to the NAS front USB.)
usb_hdd_3 (these 4 hd drives are the USB HD attached to the rear USB.
usb_hdd_5
usb_hdd_6
usb_hdd_8
hdd_3 has boot, recovery, acroldr, and system volume folders, etc.
hdd_5 has recovery and system volume folders
hdd_6 is empty
hdd_8 has system volume and recycle bin folders
