    Hi

    System Fixed!

Firstly to mdgm THANKS for your time in trying to help me i really appreciate it..:)

It seems that the snapshots were the cause of the "out of memory error"  I didn't realise that the system was taking snapshots everyday and keeping them for upto 3 years, the oldest one was dated 2014.

I have a backup of my data and could have done a factory reset but i wanted to try and fix this first.

    The fix:

Due to the power cut this forced the system to do a rescan and coz of there being loads of snapshots the system run out of memory.  I managed to delete some before the system hung again and noticed that as there were less snapshots the system was running for longer, so i kept rebooting and deleteing snapshots until i got the system to a state where i could delete almost all of them. After reboot the system started to behave and I went through and disabled all snapshots from my shares.  However there were some snapshots that seemed to be orphaned and i could not delete them but the system was now stable but running very slow.  So i did a OS Reinstall from the boot menu as suggested by mdgm and now the system appears to be stable , runnuing a proper speeds AND i was able to delete all the remaining snapshots which gave me back 1TB of disk space!!  I have done 5 reboots as a test and everything is running normal ,phew!!  I have turned off all snapshots, quotas and bitrot protection and hopefully it won't happen again.

I hope this helps someone who is having similar trouble.

    FYI to everyone:

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR DATA  INCASE YOU HAVE TO DO A FACTORY RESET!       I WAS LUCKY!!!!

Thanks again to a great supportive community and remember,

    grats
