readyNAS-1100 i bought someone elses problem from craigslist

Help - i thought that i got a great deal at $200 for an empty (no drives) ReadyNAS 1100.

He powered it up to prove to me that it worked and he told me that the big very bright blinking blue light was an error code meaning that no drives were in it. beside the blinking blue light is the drive bay #2 green light always lit.

I connected it to my network and could not see it. I tried to USB recover and the power button and reset button while depressed during back-switch power up seems to do the expect blinking drive bay light flashes (one through 5 on the power button and 1 though 2 on the reset button) but they do not seem to do anything other tan blinky lights. Then the power button broke off inside the unit. Anyone know if this vendor sells assemblies for these old NAS's anymore? Anyone know who the button manufacture is if Netgear has no assembly's?

Before the power button broke off was i on the correct path to fix this unit?

Anyone just want to laugh at me for getting screwed by Craigslist.

Did you put a drive in it? That should have been the first step. The NAS will not fully boot up unless there is at least one drive installed.

Also, try downloading RAIDar from http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20684/ and see if that detects the 1100.

Doing a USB recovery so quickly was not a good idea, as that is a method of last resort.

EDIT - though I guess a fixing the broken power switch would now be the first step. Hopefully one of the Jedi here could offer advice on that.
  • I sourced the power push button. I hopefully will pick it up tomorrow ($0.10 each) and will solder it in and then i should be ready for what ever the next step is.
  • i answered the PM but got no response. I am new to this BB style and may have done something wrong in my responce.
  • OK - got a little time to work on this again - here i am 160gig drives in each of the bay's with big very bright blinking blue light and the drive bay #2 green light always lit. Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.
