ReadyNAS 2120 Slow Read Speed

I have set the 2120 up with 4 - 3TB drives and am using an SMB share with Windows 8.1 Pro 64.  The issue presents as acceptable write speeds (~45MB/sec) and terrible read speeds (~2MB/sec).  After working through it with Netgear Support it turned out to be a windows networking problem.  Windows 8.1 will reference the NAS by hostname and when it does it will prioritize IPv6.  If you do not need IPv6 and you disable it for the interface you are using to connect to the NAS then you will see a great boost in read speed performance from your NAS.  If you are having the same problem as I am then you should try to ping your nas from cmd by both it's IP address and by it's hostname and see if when you ping the hostname it returns an IPv6 address.  Now that I have disabled IPv6 in my windows 8.1 machines I am seeing ~90MB/sec reads from the 2120.

Another option would have been to disable IPv6 on the NAS.
