ReadyNAS 312 Frozen on disc replacement
Hi! I had a failed disc on the unit so decided to replace both with same size 3TB WD red drives. Replaced the first following the standard procedure. No problems, left it for a day to ensure all was ...

Not as far as I know.
Some users report problems with the DM disks. Perhaps test that disk too.
Did the resync only take 1 hour with all the disks you tried?

Thanks vandermerwe,
Things have moved on a bit from here but to be brief, I gave up on the hot swap and have done a factory default on the machine. New disks are in place with data transferred across and seems to be working fine.
Prior to deciding this approach:
I had another two spare discs (replacements to go into another machine) which I tried in various combinations with the same end result. Each time after the first swap I would get a message that the resync was complete and the volume had been rebuilt successfully. I restarted the unit after this and the reboot was fine, but I noticed it rebuilt the volume again. When I swapped the second disc the unit would go offline/hang, with the message "please remove inactive volumes in order to use the disc #2". From there I did a hard shutdown, removed the second disc, and restarted, with the same result (system hung, please remove inactive volumes etc).
From this I figured I was unlikely to have 4 bad discs, that I was not clever enough to diagnose the problem, and the best path was the factory default. I have started running WD diagnostics anyway just to be sure. First disc no problems with the quick scan, extended scan running now. Time will tell but I suspect this is not the issue.
Is it possible that there is some difference between the old Seagates (ST3000DM001) and the new WD (WD30EFRX-68EUZNO) that prevents the disc replacement?

Hi vandermerwe,
Yes the resync was fast on all discs. I just didn't stop to calculate whether it was feasible at the time. I completed a full scan on one of the new WD discs which turned up no errors, and will test the DM disc when I have time. Just very busy catching up with work at the moment. Thanks very much for your help.
