ReadyNAS 516 losing connections to some servers - not others
Hello
I have been a user of ReadyNAS (R-NAS) units for a LONNGG time. I have done many iSCSI shares on various R-NAS without issue. I have also had these units sitting in various networks being accessed by lots of different processes and servers and have NEVER encountered what is happening now.
I am setting up an iSCSI share for a RedHat server in my network. In the middle of doing the work on the RedHat server, the processes I am in the middle of hang. I then come to find out the server lost connection to the R-NAS. I can't even PING it. I test the R-NAS against other servers and some can see it (and even access its admin interface) while others can't. All servers are on the same LAN - heck, in the same rack and switch. From the same RedHat server I can ping the gateway and all sorts of other servers - all with sub-millisecond responses as expected. It is like the NAS disappeared - but it hasn't. I see nothing in the log (in the interface) and haven't SSH'd into the unit to see the detailed logs yet.
Anyone have ANY ideas??
TIA
JJ

Hi,
It is a bit of an odd one, but it sounds like a network issue (some can see it, others can't). Is there a free nic on the server? If so, can you and connect them directly (NAS and server) to test if the same happens? You would have to set up some static ip on the free server nic and the NAS nic (in a different subnet than the rest of your network).
But that is an easy enough test and it will tell you a lot.
What firmware version is the Nas running?
Cheers
