Can't say if you're right or not but only to add I have had a similar experience with an apparent compatibility issue between my ReadyNas NVX and 2010 model Sony Bravia TV. An issue I logged on the ReadyNas forums has gone unanswered for several weeks, presumably because once Netgear has sold their re-packaged freeware (such as I understand the DLNA plug-in to be), any problems belong to the customers.
Unfortunately the state of DLNA seems to be a win for marketing by the suppliers and a big lose for customers who can be simply ignored or bounced between the suppliers when a compatibility issue arises. In the case of Netgear it looks like there is zero interest in a customer's experiences with interoperability of the ReadyNas line with client devices. Quite an indictment considering that's the whole promise of DLNA.
Overall I am happy with the ReadyNas but I hope I don't need Netgear's support on a critical issue anytime soon.
