Just as a recap of my "journey", here's a brief summary:
Just as a recap of my "journey", here's a brief summary:
- Originally had just Seagate 1TB HD (HDD-1) in slot-1.
- HDD-1 started reporting SMART disk errors.
- Problems with first purchased Seagate 2TB HD (HDD-2) for slot-2.
- Returned HDD-2 for WD 2TB NAS HD (HDD-3).
- HDD-3 formatted and sync'd successfully.
- Unit still has HDD-1 (1TB) in slot-1 but now has HDD-3 (2TB) in slot-2 and everything good (except HDD-1 SMART errors and reported total space is 1TB).
- At this point, I was able to remove HDD-1 from slot-1 and was able to use all services and read all data with just HDD-3 in slot-2.
- Since WD 2TB NAS HD is working great, purchase another (HDD-4) to replace HDD-1 in slot-1.
- HDD-4 formats and syncs successfully (haven't rebooted system yet) but still reports only 1TB total space rather than 2TB.
- Since unit was still running RAIDiator v4.1.13 and v4.1.14 was available, so I went through the procedure to update OS before rebooting unit after it successfully formatted and sync'd rather than first rebooting after format/sync and then updating OS and rebooting again (I'm kicking myself now for doing this!!!).
- After rebooting, this is the point I am now at.
- I tried taking HDD-4 out of slot-1 to see if the unit would at least possibly be at last properly working state.
- I tried doing an OS reinstall.
- Unfortunately, neither of these two worked.
I am wondering if you have a full OS partition.
Before I started this whole process, only 45% of the 1TB was used on the original HD (HDD-1). Since both the new WD HDDs are 2TB each, the total used space should be less than 25% once the unit recognizes the full HDD capacity. However, even if it still only recognized 1TB capacity of the original disk, the OS partition should still be far from full.
Whether that is the cause or not, I suggest
-backing up the data
-doing a factory reset
-rebuilding the NAS and restoring the data.
What's the best way to backup and restore the NAS data?
If you can't see all the data from Windows, you can try using Linux Reader ...
I'm not running a Windows on my laptop, but Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Should I try looking at the disk using my SATA cable?
