ReadyNas Duo V1 trouble with HDD's blue blink forever
My ReadyNas Duo V1 does not work anymore :?
Problem description:
At power it up it will just blink the blue power led and the fan runs at differents speeds and it sounds like the HDD is working. I have kept it on for 3 days but still the same.
If I remove the disks it will show up in Raidar (4.3.4) but I can't do anything with it.
Story so far:
It worked fine and I managed to delete all my shares so I put It aside during the the time I investegated on how to recover my data. Other computer issues inicluding a HDD crash and new computer with Win 7 the Nas sat on the shelf unused for about a year. A while ago I decided to try to use it again as my new computer finally worked ok.
Installed Raidar 4.3.4 and connected the NAS without disks and radiator finds it and status is OK but I can't do anything with it.
Installed the previousl used HDD's 1TB and it stuck with blue blinking led and I can't see it with Raidar
Tried to start skipping the HDD check, same thing
Started with just one disk, same thing
Formated the disk FAT32, NTFS, EXT3 same thing
Tried other disks, same thing
Re installed OS, same thing
Re instaleld OS, from USB same thing
The reinstall from USB seams to work ok ie it starts and leds blink and finally it shuts down but when I restart it still won't accept the HDD's
Any ideas?
Should I be able to see HDD initialation progress with Raidar?
What can break during the un used time on the shelf? internal battery/memory?
/Henrik

- aksVirtuosoI've personally not reinitialised my Duo v1 - but, have you booted without the disks installed, then inserted one disk with the power still on. I think this way the Duo will treat the disk as new and reformat it.
Have you done a complete "reset to factory default" by holding in the reset button on the back for 30 seconds at boot?
http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _boot_menu - hhtechAspirantHi,
Yes I have tried both those things without any luck
/Henrik - aksVirtuosoOK, so without disks you can get RAIDar to find it, but with the disks installed RAIDar does not find it. Is this correct?
What IP address is it using (without disks), i.e. are you connecting via a router? Can you check whether it is obtaining an IP address when disks are installed (in the router stats)?
Have you tried a direct connection from PC to Duo and set the PC IP address to 168.168.168.1 (the Duo will use 168.168.168.150).
I'm just checking with RAIDar 4.3.8 now, so it's perhaps useful to find out more what it shows at various stages.
You may need to go right back to a boot recovery process if all else is failing, since you have proved the disks do actually work in your PC:
http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... t_recovery - hhtechAspirantIt's connected via a router and gets 192.168.1.5 via DHCP in both Radar 4.3.8 and in the router admin CP window without the disk
If I insert the disk it's not shown in Raidar Nd still as inactive it CP of router.
I can't find it with or without disk connected direct to computer wo the router
Henrik - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserCan you test the disk in a PC with vendor tools (seatools for seagate, lifeguard for western digital)?
- hhtechAspirantThank's
Tonight I will check my HDD's with the tools above and try the TFTP Flash Recovery
/Henrik - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt could be safer to factory reset the NAS.
- hhtechAspirantThank's
I have tried that before but I can try it again after the HDD check
/Henrik - hhtechAspirantHi,
I checked my HDD and the one I have tried with shows up OK in WD's HDD check
I tried a new USB reflash with the same bad results and was about to try the TFPD32 program
I managed to set the computer IP to 192.168.125.1
But I cant get the TFPD32 settings to show 192.168.125.1
4. Make sure that the current directory of TFTPD is set to where you
have downloaded the files, and the server interface is showing
192.168.125.1.
I need help with the settings
/Henrik
In case of boot problems perhaps due to a flash corruption on the
ReadyNAS, the TFTP Boot Recovery Instruction allows you to rewrite the
boot image on flash and restore your ReadyNAS to a known good firmware
image.
Before continuing, if you haven't done so, unzip the content of the
TFTP_Boot.zip onto your hard disk. You should see a TFTP_Boot folder.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Follow the instructions here to upload and install the TFTP boot image.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Connect your PC directly to the ReadyNAS and set the IP address of
the PC to 192.168.125.1 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Make sure
the ReadyNAS is powered off.
2. Start TFTPD32.exe.
3. Set the TFTPD32 timeout to 10 seconds in Settings.
4. Make sure that the current directory of TFTPD is set to where you
have downloaded the files, and the server interface is showing
192.168.125.1.
5. Close all other window applications including RAIDar and your browser.
IMPORTANT: Disable any firewall software. It will prevent the NAS to
communicate with the PC.
6. Press power button on the front of the ReadyNAS and keep it depressed
for about 10 seconds, and release when all disk LEDs flash for the 2nd
time. The disk LEDs will flash at 5 secs and again at 10 secs. When the
unit first powers up, there is a very quick flash of the LEDs (less then
a second), ignore this power on flash, only looking for the +1 second
longer flashes.
7. Disk LED 1 and 4 will stay lit. If these LEDs are not lit, you must
go back to step 6 and try again.
8. Monitor the TFTPD window as it should show uploading kernel_conf and
initrd_conf.
9. Lastly TFTPD will upload the RAIDiator image to the ReadyNAS. The image
is about 45 MB, so it will take several minutes. It's possible that
the transfer will fail several times due to timeouts. In that case,
you may need to try connecting the ReadyNAS and the PC via a
router/switch and increase the timeout value in the TFTPD setting.
10. If the transfer is successful, your system should come up shortly
after. To complete the firmware installation, perform the 5-sec reset
by holding the hidden System Reset Switch on the back of the ReadyNAS
for about 5 seconds, until you see the 4 disk LEDs blink once, while
powering on the system.
Please be aware that the TFTP protocol is not robust and you may encounter
timeout issues. Try again if you encounter a timeout. - hhtechAspirantDoes anyone know what settings to use in the TFTPD program to get the 2 IP adresses the same?
