ReadyNas Duo v1 won't boot anymore after power out
Dear all, I have been using my ReadyNas Duo v1 (mirrored) for 7 years with no problems at all. Worked flawlessly all those years, initially with 2 x 500GB, approximately 3 years ago I replaced bot...

Hello diskomoderat,
Welcome to the community!
We always strongly recommend to always have full backup of files so that in case if a power outage happens (that sometimes affects disks), you can still grab your files from your backup. The worst thing can happen here is if both disks got affected.
If you have XRAID configured with the NAS, you should still be able to retrieve files as long as only one disk went bad out of 2.
1) Taking either disc 1 (l) or 2 (R) out and trying a restart with only one of the discs make sense or would that only cause more damage?
This is possible if you have XRAID level (RAID1), just make sure you label all disks, the order is important. Never swap them. If you are using RAID0, it is not possible because it is a non-mirror RAID.
2) I was thinking of taking my two 1TB discs out and trying to restart the nas with one or two other discs inside. I have the original 500GB discs still laying around so that could be possible, however not sure what effect that would have. And would trying that in any way decrease the chances of recovering my data?
Files and OS are stored to the disks inserted. If you remove the existing disks and replace and another set of disks, the ReadyNAS chassis will load the OS from its flash memory to the disks, so the new set of disks has a different volume from what you have on the first set of disks you have been using. When you insert the original ones to the ReadyNAS chassis (make sure you insert them to their respective bays, never swap), it should still have its own volume and other settings and files assuming that disks are still good..
3) I can probably get my hands on an identical V1, would it make sense to try my 1TB discs in another V1? And similar aslo here the question whether that decrease the chances of recovering my data?
This is okay if you are sure that the disks are good. I suggest you make sure first if those disks are usable.
Try contacting support center, you may avail their per incident service to check the status of the chassis, disks and files.

Hi JennC,
Thank you for your useful comments, let me try some tonight. I'll update later with hopefully a positive outcome.

Hi again,
I managed to restart my Nas with one disc, but couldn't turn it of and reboot it from frontview. The apply button is greyed out / not active.
So i thought maybe I need to resync with the second disc first but that failed after 39%, now it says disc dead.
Still unable to power it off through frontview, not sure what to do next.

Logging out and in again in frontview seem to do the trick and i could power off the normal way.
However the nas became inaccessible again, only thing I could do was pull the plug again.
Rebooted and it's back up - for now. Currently copying my dta to other drives...
I think the Nas or the drives have come to an end, just hope I manage to get all my data off before that.
Thanks for the help,
Eelco
