ReadyNAS Duo
The subject is in accordance with the Unit Label, but I am advised by Technical Support that from the serial # submitted it is in fact v1 !! Firstly I must say that I am extremely frustrated by the total lack of support from Netgear. I have been fortunate in having a son who has passed his 4 year old, little used unit, to me as a gift. After connection and installation, I was looking forward to setting up, but to no avail. The RAIDAR would not accept the password previously used. I can only assume due to IP differences. I then have carried out the OS Reinstall, with out any luck.Three, time consuming telcons, two emails from Tech Support, exchange of proof of purchase, I am finally advised that they, TS," do not support to second hand devices , as they consider them refurbished" !!!
I am amazed that Netgear are still in business, and surely customers of organizations like Ebay should be aware of these imposed limitations. If anyone can advise me how to get up and running I will be more than willing to donate to a nominated charity.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYour son could probably still get support, saying that his unit was in a remote location.
More to the point, identifying a v1 vs v2 is harder than it should be. A definitive guide is here: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/
The default password for the v1 is "netgear1", so try that first. You can try the OS reinstall again (the procedure varies by platform). Read pages 15-16 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ ... 6Dec11.pdf
It that still fails, then I suggest deleting the existing partitions on your current drives - which will force the NAS to re-format them. This rebuilds the NAS OS, and will also wipe your data. If you want more guidance on how to do that, let us know. - 2treesAspirantAppreciate your immediate response. Have done the "netgear1" response, no joy.In fact have tried so hard, my friends in Sherwood Forest have now called me Little John.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThen if there is no data on the NAS that you care about, try wiping the disks on PC (or doing the full factory reset procedure).
What IP address does RAIDar tell you the NAS is using? Do you know that IP address your PC is assigned? - 2treesAspirant192.168.1.102
- 2treesAspirant192.168.1.102
- 2treesAspirantConfirm all is wiped
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIs 192.168.1.102 the NAS or the PC?
If the drives are both wiped, reinstall them and start up the Nas. It will install the firmware onto the drives, and then the default admin password would be netgear1. To set it up, you'd connect to https://nasip/admin. Firefox is probably the best browser to use. You will need to click through a security exception. - 2treesAspirant192.168.1.102 is the NAS. Have wiped, then re powered, then entered netgear1 when requested,Cannot link nasip/admin link, here in UK.Am using Firefox as norm. Appreciate your continuing help.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThe link in your case would be https://192.168.1.102/admin
What happens when you paste it in your browser?
Also, what is the PC IP address? - 2treesAspirantStephen, apologies, have been bumbling around, this is my first experience of a Forum Site. I have this weekend sorted a Static IP for the PC >192.168.1.19. The NAS is 192.168.1.102.. When I enter that to my browser I get the Login Window I enter admin/netgear1. This then presents a window again with the login details but also a comment that 192.168.1.102 states "Control Panel". i would have included Snipits, but I cannot see how I attach them to these notes. Trust this helps in someway, much appreciate your obvious dedication.
