ReadyNAS Dup - duplicate IP address message

I have assigned a static IP address to my ReadyNAS - 192.168.1.79.

The DHCP range starts at 192.168.1.100

I occasionally (6x yesterday, but over a month since it last happened) receive this error message:

MAC address BC:96:80:12:06:5E claims to have our IP address (192.168.1.79) (duplicate IP conflict likely)

I don't recognise that MAC address, and haven't assigned the IP address to any other device.

The ReadyNAS turns on every day (via the internal timer) but I only receive the message infrequently.

Any ideas ?

Do you have any powerline network equipment on your network.

Maybe the next time it happens, remove the NAS ethernet cable and try to ping the device.

The other option is to change the IP address used on the NAS.
