ReadyNAS NV finally bit the dust, how to recover data?

My NV of almost 8 years has died. A few years ago, the PS melted, and Netgear kindly sent me a replacement. I am not interested in replacing the power supply for such an old unit, and I think I'm going to run my data via DAS.

I hadn't backed up my NV in a few weeks. Is there any easy way to access my shares from Mac OS X Mavericks? I also have a Windows 7 PC available.

EDIT: I was not running RAID, just a single 2TB HDD in the NV.

  • Consider backing up the data that you nearly lost.
Do you have a newer readynas?

I do keep two backups, including one off site. I wanted to recover off the ReadyNAS because my most recent backup (mainly media) was a couple of weeks old.

I do not have another NAS. I kind of got soured on ReadyNAS because my main computer is a Mac Mini, and OS X Mavericks broke Time Machine backups to the ReadyNAS.

My plan now is to run OS X Server, with DAS. I will start using Time Machine to back up all data, and of course keep two backups of my Time Machine backup.
