ReadyNAS NV not upgrading

I just got this ReadyNAS and am having trouble updating it.
Model: Infrant ReadyNAS NV
Serial: 000da201222d
Firmware: RAIDiator™ v3.01c1-p6 [1.00a034]
Memory: 256 MB [2.5-3-3-7]
When I try a remote upgrade and click the "Check for Update" button I get an error: "Unable to connect to the update server or retrieve update information. Click Check for Update to retry."
When I I try a local upgrade (file RAIDiator4-1.9) The "Apply" button is not activated.
Is it possible to upgrade this NAS further? I am hoping that upgrading it will fix some of the other problems I've been having.

- I just found another thread where the solution was Opera - viewtopic.php?f=65&t=67849&p=377026&hilit=RAIDiator+v3#p377026
- Installed the latest version of Opera for Mac, 12.11, and was able to hit the recalcitrant button - "verification complete" for RAIDiator-4.1.10. About to hit the "Perform System Update" button ... shutting down and rebooting ... whirring noises from the closet ... "Booting - updating FW" ... the suspense is killing me ... more whirring noises ... "Booting - generating ECC" ... more whirring ... "Booting..." ... SUCCESS!
Next: install the disks from my failed unit, see if it starts up.
