ReadyNas NV+ v2 - DOES NOT SUPPORT WEBDAV

This was confirmed a short while ago by L2 Support. It was a surprise to them too, as for the past three days we've been trying various options without success!

I've now spend a couple of hundred quid on a product which is essentially now useless to me and I'm not very impressed with it.

Here's my use case:

- Create a Share on the ReadyNas accessible over LAN by a MacBook and a Win7 machine
- Enable WebDAV so that I can access files over the internet using an iPad

I'm a photographer and I want to use the iPad to backup files while I'm on the road directly to my NAS. I know the iPad can do this, I've seen it in action. However, I have to use WebDAV to do so, ReadyNAS remote doesn't work as it can't see the local files in my ipad. Nor can ReadyNAS Remote handle sending Pages/Numbers/Keynote documents to the NAS as it's not an option in the iPad. The iPad offers WebDAV, a fairly standard way of accessing files over the internet, it's been around years and I can't understand WHY IT'S NOT SUPPORTED!

A word of warning to anyone looking to buy one of these products - AVOID, it's been nothing but trouble.

Since purchase and initial installation, I've reinstalled the OS several times, losing data the first time around, L2 and L3 support have been all over it to get it just to run ReadyNAS remote (which is FLAKY at the best of times)

L2 Support have now requested WedDAV support be added in a future firmware release. I don't hold out much hope of this happening to be honest.

What I now have is a device little better than a USB drive plugged into a router though it's size and weight lend itself to great doorstopping duties.

AVOID it!

  • Well, what a turn up - L2 support just called to let me know that WebDAV is being enabled in the next firmware release..

Well done Netgear, you may just turn this around yet :-)
  • Did they give any ETA? They could easily claim this and turn around to have new firmware released next year.
