In taking down my NAS to diagnose connection speed issues (now narrowed down to the NAS), I finally had the time to look at the power supply issue.
swish: Thanks for the photos. Though I did not have near the damage that you did, I did have one capacitor which is slightly bulging.
mdgm: Thank you for your calm, collected methodology. I was able to reach Netgear support 1-888-638-4327, then 4 3 3 1 2, and am having a new power supply sent to me for $27.
