ReadyNAS RN516 stuck on boot after FW upgrade
Hi! I'm an experienced ReadyNAS user with 10 years and 3 different models in history. My current NAS is an RN516 with four WD RED 6tb NAS drives. Last week, after checkin everything was ok an...

Before RN516 display/touch panel stuck at 1 second on/2 second off, does display ever show "NETGEAR Storage Welcome" message? If not, then BIOS stuck even before trying to boot from any devices, USB recovery won't work at this stage. Is this a RN516 beta unit? becuase the symptom appears to be corrupted BIOS NVRAM or CMOS settings which was only observed on beta units. Could you please try following:
1. Hook up a TV or monitor to RN516 through HDMI port and let me know what is BIOS boot message(or no message) ?
2. Take out CMOS battery for 30 seconds, then put it back. To take out battery:
i/ Remove RN516 cover - Uncrew(7) from back, pull back half inch, then lift up
ii/ Remove RN516 back panel (2 screws). Battery is now accessible (Top near backplane)
iii/ Push tab to unlock battery and take it out
iv/ wait 30 seconds
v/ Reverse step iii/ ii/ i/ to replace battery and panels

^ No wellcome messages. I removed the battery too, but no success: now the touch panel is not blinking anymore but I cannot access Boot menu. Haven't tried USB-recovery yet.
I took a completely new, unused diskless 516 unit and put the RAID disks inside the enclosure in the original order:
Front panel : "Could not mount root RAID c"
RAIDar:
Status: Corrupt root
Firmware: (=empty)
What next?

Your new system had 6.0.4 on the flash.
I just put 6.5.2 on it.
I'd recommend uninstalling the LMS app you have on your NAS and installing the one from NASTools. There is a lot on your 4GB root volume.
It sounds like your old system will need to be RMA'd.

Exactly what I was suspecting, too, and now everything is working as expected.
Thanks a lot for the perfect support again. This is the reason I'm not considering other brands at all.
I'll RMA the old unit.

I've been very happy with the RAID disks migrated from the faulty unit to the new working enclosure. No problems at all, definately some real-life software based X-RAID2 quality here!
Today I finally got in my hands the proof of purchase of the failed RN51600 enclosure but couldn't open the original RMA ticket anymore: 'The case has been closed and archived (Case #: 27550721)'.
I cannot find any obvious way to reactivate the case. The email I got from the support gives me a link to contact the support. But the link doesn't do anything, it just reopens the same window. If I follow the official support route, it tells me that I don't have any warranty left. That's definately not the case.
How do I reactivate an archived support ticket?
