hi Stephen,
Tnx for your fast reply. Unfortenely the nas is 3 years and 4 months old.
with scratch disk you mean a kind of Test disk ? i can do that ..
Strange Fact is ... i cannot perfom a fact default or OS reinstall. Simply because holding this reset and power up give's no burning leds as mentioned in the manual. So i think the unit is out of firmware or bad memory ..
do you know a way to reinstall the firmware with USB or ? because it does not boot ..
grtz

You could try unformatting or zeroing the scratch drive - that will force a factory install.
There are instructions for usb recovery here: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=166
Note the warning - it would be good to get some confirmation from Netgear that it is appropriate.

Hi Stephen,
i tried this USB recovery.... no respons. the Act led blinks for 3 seconds... the fan starts... then nothing.
I will try this weekend with a scratch disk... but i think the NAS is dead, maybe the memory. It's a pity there is nowhere some info to find out if there are way's to try for some tests. Just like with pc's ... one Beep , two beeps .. etc.
Only thing that matters to me is that i can recover my data... these are unreplaceble for me ..
Grtz

hello,
I tried with a scratch disk ... no result ...
Whatever i do or try ...after pressing the power button :
only blue power led
one blink of the act led after a few seconds
the fan starts fast
after a few seconds the fan lowers his speed ..
Then nothing more ...
who has any suggestions ? i think the memory or the unit is broke... but getting in the tools menu is also impossible ( holding the reset button does not led the leds burn)
grtz

Hello erikkie,
Did you try Skip Volume Check when you were getting stuck on booting?
