Readynas Ultra 4 goes to sleep
Hi
I seem to have a problem with my Ultra 4 that started around the time of the upgrade to 4.2.27.
The unit just seems to go to "sleep". It drops off Raidar and is not available through Windows Network. If I press the power button it shows the correct IP and free space available but I cannot access it till a reboot. When I check the logs after reboot it shows no errors at all.
Within a few minutes of a reboot it goes to "sleep" again.
Power save mode (disk spin down) is off. No errors in the Logs. Health tab shows all green lights.
I found the 4.2.26 firmware and updated to that, without error, same problem.
Any ideas?

- JolissaAspirantUpdated to 4.2.27 fine.
Setup a file copy. Died as soon as I started the copy. Power light stays on but the bottom display goes blank.
I will restart it again and leave it alone without copying anything to it for a while and see if it stays awake. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDo you have a backup?
- JolissaAspirantOf all 5tb+ no, just the critical files.
Why? Did you have a suggestion? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou may wish to run the memory test boot menu option for a few passes for instance. Perhaps also run the disk test boot menu option.
- JolissaAspirantOk, been a while but I was doing everything remotely as this NAS was not at my home, I now have it.
Run Memory Test (10 passes), no issues.
Run Disk Test (twice), no issues.
Tested a few other things. Generally I can stream media for the NAS (well for at least 10 minutes without issue). Most of the time I can copy from the NAS, enough to get the critical data off it. The issue is still copying data to it. Within minutes my copies will fail and the NAS drops off the network.
I have bought a ReadyNas 104 to replace it. Disks from old NAS installed and rebuilding. Copied 100+gb, no issue, so I think the drives are ok.
Before I send my beloved original ReadyNas Ultra 4 to the scrap heap, any other suggestions? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredNot sure what's causing it. Have you tried changing power cables.
Your hardware warranty has expired unfortunately. - JolissaAspirantYes, I am using a total different power cable.
Totally understand it is not under warranty, it was just my first ReadyNas and I was hoping to get it back up and running again.
Thanks for your responses so far, looks like I have a new door stop for the office :-( - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserMaybe try a factory reset with a single new disk, and see if the problem still occurs?
