ReadyNas won't boot error message lookup_inline_extent_backref+4c
This is a 2016 ReadyNas that has my photos and music on. I'm dissapointed that at only 5 years old there are no options to ask Netgear what the problem is - is it the ReadyNas or one of the disks...
This error doesn’t necessarily indicate a disk problem.
It could be a problem at the filesystem level.
Which firmware are you running?
Do you have any apps installed?
Do you recall how full the data volume was?
Have you tried seeing if you can boot the NAS into volume read only mode?

Firmware (6.10.2). I think its running ReadyNas 6.5. Its nowhere near full.
It will boot readonly.
However it says I need to remove the drives to be able to use it
On the diagnostics log I get
- 2021-03-16 18:21:07: md/raid:md127: raid level 5 active with 2 out of 3 devices, algorithm 2

If a drive has failed its not telling me which.
No apps are installed. In readonly mode it says no volume exists. When not in readonly mode, it fails at about 45% during boot with the message. As far as I can tell apart from the above, all 3 disks are active.
- This sounds like a data recovery situation.
Possibly a failed disk (would need to see more logs to confirm whether or not that is the case) and the filesystem won’t mount even read-only.

(would need to see more logs to confirm whether or not that is the case)You can download the full logs from the admin web ui (there's a download link on the log page). mdstat.log will give some information on what disks are in the array. You can copy that into a reply if you don't know how to interpret that log. Don't post a link to the full log zip - there is some privacy leakage when you post logs publicly.
But as mdgm also points out, you are seeing file system errors as well as indication of a failed disk. The LCD error on boot also appears to be a crash in btrfs. Other logs would give more info on what is going on.
Netgear does offer a data recovery service ( https://kb.netgear.com/69/ReadyNAS-Data-Recovery-Diagnostics-Scope-of-Service ), and there are some software packages for data recovery out there that support the btrfs file system - ReclaiMe is one. https://www.reclaime.com/default.aspx
If you have a backup, then you can simply start over with a factory default (after getting a replacement disk).

I think its broke. Not sure if its a drive or the device.
I've just spent some money with MS, a one drive account might be better than trying to persevere with something that isn't supported. What a waste of money and time! I'm dissaponted it isn't supported officially only 5 years after I had bought it.Maybe I can use the disks for something, but I'm on SSD's on my PC's now anyway.
