As discussed over the private message, you may try turning On the Wake On LAN then turn it Off again if you encounter that LCD error when the NAS is shutting down.

The firmware appeared to have installed correctly but just that it doesn’t power off. Do you think if I reinstalled the firmware that this issue could go away? Thanks.
I tried to reinstall the same firmware again and to no avail. I still get the same error message. I think my only hope is to change out the NAS now to a different manufacturer. I haven't been too lucky recently with Netgear products (went through 3 different routers and this is is my 2nd Netgear NAS that all had issues or died upon firmware updates and they were all outside the warranties too) after being a long time user too.
