I suggest contacting Netgear paid support (my.netgear.com). It sounds like data recovery might be needed, and it is expensive: https://kb.netgear.com/69/ReadyNAS-Data-Recovery-Diagnostics-Scope-of-Service
Some users have also reported success using ReclaiMe. That's also expensive, but you can see what it can recover before purchase.

Hi StephenB,
thank you.
ReclaiMe will do the job but with over 140k unsorted files this will be a lot of work afterwards (just running the demo version).
Are there any similar OSX file recovery apps?
I will try to get in touch with the Netgear support. Maybe they got an idea of restoring the files including the file structure.
regards,
Martin

Yes. Once you get the NAS running again, you should put a backup plan in place, to avoid the need for recovery in the future. But the issue at hand is to get the data recovered.

I don't have an OSX systems, so I have no recommendation there. Most of these tools seem to be either linux or Windows based.
