I found a solution to this problem as my network is also gigabit and running on cat6 cable, so it should have been very fast!
I debugged the fault and knew it wasn't a physical issue it as I happened to have a Mac Book Pro for the day and that was copying files to and from the Readynas at about 25/30mb sec min, my Win7 machines (3 of them) could only handle about 3-5mb - shocking!
Solution - downgrade to firmware 4.1.7 on the Readynas - back up to full speed now!

Just downgrade exactly the same way as you do an upgrade and watch your speeds return!
