Reboot RN314 through SSH
Hi all, I have a RN314, OS 6.9.0, I'm abroad at the moment and something odd happened -it always happens when I'm traveling... I was trying to access some file through readycloud, but the unit was ...

Well it looks like there isn't much to do now.
I tried the command systemctl --force --force reboot, which was indicated as a working solution for the reboot error I was getting. It did something, but now everything seems dead. I've got no email for the shutdown, so I guess it is definitively crashed. No admin webpage, no SSH anymore, nothing.
I'll have to check what happened when I'm back...

If you travel a lot, you may want to look into a remote power controller that you can command over the LAN or even via a smart phone (passed to the device by your WiFi) to cycle power on the NAS. You can even set most of the wired LAN based devices in "watchdog" mode to auto cycle power when the device stops responding to pings. These are very commonly used by folks that provide remote server admin service to save a trip to the site of the server to do a "master reset".. There are some newer ones designed for use with Alexa and such that also have a smart phone Ap, and they are quite cheap. I don't know about the 524, but most of the ReadyNAS do power back up on a power cycle, which would be a requirement to use one. The other option is to make your backup also accessible from the outside (assuming it's not a USB device connected to the same NAS). Your old 314 would be good for that (if it still works and you still have it).

Hi,
yes, it is something I thought about in the past. The problem is that the NAS is powered by a UPS, so I would need to interrupt the power after the UPS and make some adaptor for the switch. I'm not sure if the NAS boots automatically either -but that will be easy to verify.
I have my RN314 at my parent's house, and I indeed tried to set up the remote backup. Unfortunately, it never works. The internet connection is UK is so crap that it is never able to make the first complete upload -I miss my Spanish 100Mbit FTTH connection so much!. I have tried for months.
I thought that having the remote access to my desktop would have been enough, obviously this time something more critical must have happened. Next time I will be ready... and the remotely controlled switch is the most probable option at this point.

A lot of the new ones that use a smartphone app are power strips, so no modification needed. There are a lot of choices on amazon.co.uk around the £22 mark.

I've just arrived at home. The NAS was still ON, but even the display was off and the keys on the front panel were not responsive.
I had to switch it off manually, and as soon it was off it rebooted immediately.
Now it is on, and it has started the re-sync on one of the two sets of HDD. No error displayed on error log, last entry before today reboot is the creation of the first snapshot of the ten created daily.
I guess it will remain a mystery...
