RN104 - Added disks, no new capacity
I set up my RN104 with 2 2TB disks using x-Raid. My RN is on version 6.6. It has worked fine but is down to 319 Gb free. I added a 3rd 2TB disk, but did not see an increase in capacity. Assuming ...

- Well you first need to backup your data. Trying to fix this by adding those disks into your array is likely to cause data loss with disk 2 in this state.
- You should backup your data, remove the bad disk, do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) and restore your data from backup.
The failing disk disk 2 is the disk that has your data on it. The other disks marked spare wouldn't contain your data.
The ST2000DM001 disk model has very high failure rates. I would suggest replacing this disk with a different disk model.

Hi Mdgm,
I eventually got things sorted. The backup invoked via the web console failed on my repeatedly, but consistent at the same point, just greater than 1 TB. I wouldn’t say failed — it just stopped writing any more new files. So, I eventually got there by doing backups of smaller amounts. I was then able to get on pretty much as expected .. although it was quite a long and tedious process. In the end, when I did a factory reset, I just used the remaining three good disks as I did not as yet need as much space as four 2 TB RAID5 disks would support. It correctly reformatted as RAID5 and I was able to restore successfully from my USB drive.
All in, it was quite an odyssey - hopefully, not to be repeated soon! Thanks for the advice. I would say, perhaps try and fix the backup bug, and maybe advertise that this might be needed if you start with just a single pair of disks as I did. It was interesting that the backup invoked via the web console seemed faster than doing a rsync.
