RN104 - keeps freezing after 6.2.3 & 6.2.4 updates #25088243
Hi,
I seem to be having the same issue a lot of people are having.
I was originally running 6.2.2 and everything was working perfectly. I was prompted on the admin page that a new firmware 6.2.3 was available so I upgraded. Everything seemed ok but after some time the device slowed right down and then became unreachable. I had to pull the power out to get it to reboot and come back online, then between 6-12 hours it would lock up again. This happened 5 or 6 times and then I noticed 6.2.4 was available so I installed this. 6-12 hours later it locked up again and I had to power cycle it again.
Is there a fix to stop this from locking up?
Thanks,
Dale

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCan you send me your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?
- wydraAspirantThanks, logs sent.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPerhaps you could try disabling some of your apps and see if it still locks up?
- wydraAspirantDoes any app in particular look like it could be causing the issue?
I am only running standard apps that came from the "available apps" page.
I am running:
* Readynas surveillance
* Transmission
* Anti-Virus plus (but this isn't enabled)
* Sickbeard
* SABnzbd
Everything worked perfectly on 6.2.2, is it worth just rolling back to this? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI guess you could try the downgrade if you like, but we haven't changed anything since 6.2.2 that would be likely to cause an issue such as this.
- wydraAspirantWell I have been running all these apps with 6.2.2 for months and it was rock solid.
As soon as I went to 6.2.3 this locking up started and 6.2.4 dint improve the issue.
I'll try disable some of the apps 1 by 1 and see if one of them is causing the issue, if none of this works I'll go back to 6.2.2 and see if this gets me stable again.
I sent my logs through, can you see why it is freezing? - tomythecatAspirantI dont know how nothing has changed because I was using the Readynas RN104 and it always worked like a charm. Once i did the FW upgrade to 6.2.3, my RN104 freezes to where I have to manually go over and unplug it and plug it back in twice a day. I thought the 6.2.4 upgrade might fix it, but nope... still doing it. I was almost about to buy another RN104 or one of the newer ones, but thinking about trying a different brand as no one knows what is going on with it and from all the posts no one has any solution to fixing it.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredwydra the logs do not indicate why it is freezing.
tomythecat I have also sent you a PM.
We are looking to gather what information we can to help with diagnosing this. - HossaTutorHello,
I am also having I guess the same problem!
We have a RN104 running.
It was running fine for as long as I had 6.2.2 installed (don't remember when it was released)!
No Lockups. No freezes. Everything fine.
Than I updated to 6.2.3 and right after that to 6.2.4.
Now I updated the ReadyNAS with the new 6.2.4 and since than we only have problems!
First of all. The Update didn't run through. So I had to "power-cycle" the unit to get it back up running. After a second attempt the update passed and everything looked just fine.
Now the unit freezes, with no reason. Any time of the day....maybe 2-3 times a day!
It than is inaccessible. The only thing I can do is power-cycle again ! :-(
The last days I could do this. But today after power-cycling the unit won't boot anymore ! :-(
It just says "Booting" on the screen and nothing more happens !
Help please! This is our Production Unit! My colleagues are really relying on me !!
Thanks a lot!
Cheers
Hossa
I would send you logs.....If I could access the unit! :-/ - wydraAspirantI disabled all the apps on the unit and it still locked up in under 12 hours.
I am at a loss what to do now, it is obviously not just me with this issue. I am going to roll back to 6.2.2 as the NAS is currently unusable.
