I have been fighting with a R314 ReadyNas over the last few days in an attempt to encrypt the hard drives using a USB stick.

The RN314 also support that type of setup. Have you tried using another USB drive?

That did the trick. As soon as we tried a fresh 16GB usb it detected it on the dashboard screen and encrypted fine.
Very odd that the other 8GB stick just wasnt recognised even though it was formatted in the same way.
All up and running! Thanks again for the quick response!
They are picky about the USB drive. Legacy systems even moreso.
