RN314 and the Recycle Bin

On OS6 we have snapshots. We don't use the recycle bin feature of samba on OS6.

What if a file is created then deleted between snapshot, recycle bin would still have a copy of deleted file, but not snapshot?

The snapshot would still contain the version of the deleted file that existed when the snapshot was taken.

If the file didn't exist when the snapshot was taken, then of course it would be gone.

Obviously snapshot doesn't replace recycle bin, they have different use cases.

I agree that it's not 1-1. Snapshot is better in several scenarios (for instance rolling back to an old version of a file); recycle bin is better in others.

I find the snapshots more useful myself.

I miss the Recycle Bin on the ReadyNAS NV+. Just lost something between snapshots. Sad.

Scary message about Netgear denying support if SSH is enabled. And, are Snapshots still there if the Recycle Bin is configured? I have not configured it yet.

With ssh you have effective access to the operating system hence the warning.

Yes you do still have snapshots.

I suppose I would edit (on my MAC) the recycle.conf file in the frontview sub-folder (which exists, but is empty) and add the lines like: "media!!/c/media!!0!!360" for all the shares I want to keep for a while. I am a little confused as to how to re-zip the configuration, upload it, and not brick my 314.
