If you sent your logs to support what was the date in bios_ver.log ?
This BIOS update includes an update to the USB3 firmware so it should help with USB3 compatibility.

I recommend hooking up an external display via the HDMI port so you can see what the NAS is doing. When doing a BIOS update should see it boot with a Windows 98 screen (you are booting a DOS disk after all), and then see it run some commands including the BIOS update and then finally the FDAPM command to power off.
Remove the USB key after the NAS has shutdown and boot the NAS normally.
For future boots from USB flash drives the process will be different after the BIOS upgrade. Support can advise you on the different steps you would need to do should this be required at some point in the future.

How to boot from External USB Flash?
Follow NETGEAR instructions to make a service USB flash drive.
Plug the USB flash drive into the front USB port.
Press and hold Backup button.
Press the Power button to power on the system and wait for blue power LED becomes solid, wait 10 more seconds. Backup button can now be released.
Wait until USB boot finishes service. Typically, system will auto power off after service done. Or work with Netgear tech support to verify service was successful.
