RN316 Data Degrade - Installed New Drives - No Idea What Do
Heya!
So I've had my RN316 for a while now (about a year or more) and was working peachy until today. I also have the updated firmware 6.2.4
My NAS is a 4tb x 6 Slot.
I had 4 x 3tb Drives.
Today my 4th drive went "red" on the light and the system said it Data: Degraded.
I switched that problem drive with a smaller 2tb drive, thinking the x-raid would be able to hobble it along until I got a proper replacement drive on it next month.
It doesn't seem to be.. doing anything?
I check the Volumes tab and it shows my initial 3 drives as blue (RAID5?) and then the 2tb as grey. I can click on the 2tb drive and FORMAT but nothing else.
The other 3 drives, and the info box on the left, say they're in RAID5, but I thought it was all supposed to be in X-Raid. I haven't changed anything since getting the NAS. And installed the drives normally at the beginning, letting the NAS set up its X-Raid.
Did I lose the x-raid and now have a bungled NAS? Can anyone help me with how to get it back working properly again?

Also the replacement disk needs to be a 3TB one. - kittikatAspirantOh, I thought that would reinitialize the drive heh. I'm dum. :(
And thanks! So 3tb is the only way. Or higher. :) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes, 3TB or higher.
- kittikatAspirantAlso, curious, my memory graph/usage shows 8.17tb Total Data with 2.97tb free. Is this correct? I only have 3 3tb drives in there now. Shouldn't that have gone down? And if I can't get a 3tb drive till next week or week after, is this going to be OK?

That's correct. The volume will not shrink.kittikat wrote:

Provided another disk doesn't fail in the mean time...
Do you have a backup? - kittikatAspirantI don't have a backup 3tb or larger. All of my current drives are 2tb. As far as backing up my data. Nope. The NAS is pretty much it. My important things I have doubles of (resumes, documents, pictures) but the other stuff on the NAS like movies and whatnot. Nah.
