RN516 can no longer save to or access iSCSI
Good morning. My Nas started playing up a few days ago, looking to the community for help. Currently the NAS is 80% full but still has 2.5Tb free space. (6x 3Tb drives in Raid 5) There's a t...

The space on the data volume is fully allocated. Please backup your data then run a balance.

The balance completed successfully, took just shy of 3 days. The defrag completed successfully, took about 15hrs. Disk test failed on drive 6, though I don't see any warnings that the drive itself has failed or that the raid array is degraded so not sure what to make of that?

Not run the scrub yet.

One other poster has seen that also - I don't know what to make of it either. https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/Disk-Test-Failure/m-p/1168228/highlight/true#M119331
If you can, maybe shut down the NAS, and test disk 6 in a Windows PC with Western Digital's lifeguard program. That also runs the long self test, and would help clarify the situation. As long as the NAS is powered down throughout, there will be no resync when you boot up again.

Am I right in thinking the data showing 9.36Tb with 8.1Tb used means I can't save more than 1.26Tb to the NAS?
The top section shows 13.6Tb so where is the remaining 4Tb?
The web gui shows 5.5Tb free of 13.6Tb
There is a thin provisioned 5Tb iSCSI LUN on the NAS which is about 4Tb used currently. As it's Thin provisioned it would only be consuming as much space as data so that could explain the difference between the 13.6Tb and the 9.36Tb. However the share which uses the remaining volume on the NAS only shows 3.8Tb consumed. So this should leave the 5.5Tb showed in the GUI as free space.
It looks to me like the data on the iSCSI LUN is counted twice, once by deducting the used space from the maximum available to the filesystem/data and again by counting the space used on the drive as consumed filesystem/data. Following?

You have over 4TB of unallocated space. That would be allocated to data or metadata as needed.
9.39TiB is allocated of which 8.11TiB is in use. The remaining 4.23TiB is not allocated and not in use by anything.
The problem you had before was the space on the volume was fully allocated but an allocation that was fully used needed to be increased. With no unallocated space this could not happen so the volume went read-only. - ListerOsmegNov 11, 2016Aspirant
So I swapped out Disk 6 and the volume has now resynced and is redundant again. I used the WD lifegaurd tool on the old drive, quick test passed but the extended test (26hrs) spotted some bad sectors, so guess the drive was on its way out. I've run disk test again on the NAS but it's still in progress.

Well thanks for all your help, I've run every maintenance tool, replaced a drive, now everything is up and running as normal. I've scheduled Balance, Scrub and Defrag to run quarterly and disk test to run monthly.
