RND2150 slow perf on iMac & can't see config menu in RAIDar 'No Shares currently accessible'
I have two problems now. I'll start with the first. The first problem was that when I try to look at my NAS files through my iMac, browsing/viewing files was/is still slow unlike viewing from a PC ...

OMG!!! First, RAIDar is now showing firmware 4.1.15. Now when I got into my NAS and select any folders that haven't been referenced in a while, the folder(s) are now opening up relatively fast (comparing before, it could take 10+ secs if not more). Now it's under a sec no matter what file(s) I'm looking. I can see the pics, files or whatever relatively fast. So thank you VERY MUCH. I'm a happy camper!!!
Again, THANK YOU!!!

Hello wjgee000,
Are the Mac machines wirelessly connecting to the network? If another computer is not getting the same problem with the slow performance then that means it is not the NAS. That is the first thing you should have checked, go wired and not wireless. That is by connecting one computer to the router or a switch where the NAS is connected via LAN cable and see if there is a difference.
Now that the problem is you have lost access to the NAS, totally, it is going to be more difficult. This NAS is one of the oldest model, by the way, so it must have ran out of warranty and support too.
I would suggest to connect a computer to the network first with LAN cable then run RAIDar. Open web browser and type http:// followed by the IP address of the NAS that is shown in the RAIDar in the address bar then add /admin, for example, http://192.168.3.5/admin. Try other web browser if you get the same null message. Also, on your Mac, click Go then click Connect to Server and type smb:// followed by the NAS IP. Let me know what's the result.
If you get the same error, I hope you have backup of the data.

I'd suggest upgrading the duo to 4.1.15 and then retesting. We can't give much help on 2009 firmware.

Hi. Thx for your response. When you say 4.1.15, is that for the firmware or RAIDar. As far as I can tell, I'm at 4.1.6 for the firmware and 4.3.8 for RAIDar. If this 4.1.15 is for the firmware, do I go through the configuration menu, system/update?

Hi. All of my Macs are wired with a CAT5 to the same router that is connected to my NAS. As far as losing my NAS totally, I don't believe that's true. Under Finder, GO, Connect to Server, I can still enter smb://192.168.1.111/widget (widget is used to protect the name) and in a sec I can see my NAS and all the files. So it's not totaly lost. - in my opinion.
Now back to your your example, here's what the results are.
On Safari, if I enter 192.168.1.111 (that's my IP for my NAS) and a screen would come up.. It would say, "To view this page, you must log in to 192.168.1.111:443. Your login information will be sent securely." Then there are two fields to enter Name and Password. When I try to enter 'admin' and my password, I would eventually get a NETGEAR logo top left and 'ReadyNAS Duo" logo on the top right. Then I tried 192.168.1.111/admin. After hitting enter, I would get the same result.
With Firefox, I get 'Authentication Required' and msg [[A username and passord are being requested by http://192.168.1.111. The site says: "My Shares".]] Below that, it would ask for User Name and Password. So after I enter ADMIN and my password, I can see the 192.168.1.111 change to 192.168.1.111/shares. Then in a few secs, I get the same NETGEAR logo come up top left and 'ReadyNas Duo' logo top right along with two tabs - Shares and Password. Under Shares, it shows "No shares currently accessible". When I click the 'Password' tab, it comes back displaying Account, Current Password, New Password and Re-tuype new password. When I try 192.168.1.111/admin, I get the same result. That's the extent of Firefox.
With Chrome, after typing 192.168.1.111/admin, I get a msg about 'connection is not private'. After clicking 'Advanced' and 'Proceed', it comes up the same about Authentication. However, after entering adming and password, to my surprise I'm in. Attached is a screen shot showing my configuration. I'm not sure what is going on.
So I decided to launch Safari and Firefox and to my surprise, i was able to get in. I don't get it.
So then I tried to run RAIDar. After double clicking the icon, I can see my ReadyNAS device listed. I can see the Mac Address, Model, Host Name, IP Address, two icons showing my two HDD of which both have green LED. Below it, I can see the RAIDar buttons for Setup, Rescan, locate, etc. But this time when I click the Setup, I get into the configuration menu.Hmmm, so at this point in time, my configuration menu problem is fixed. However, my Macs accessing the NAS performance is still a problem where browsing files are slow which I guess I'll live with it for now.
So thanks for your support. Obviously, I must have done something wrong during the short period where I couldn't get in.

Generally its better to enter http://192.168.1.111/admin to get to Frontview. You will get certificate warnings - e.g. "connection is not private"- because chrome at least will try https even though you didn't specify that. But you can click through them to get to frontview. On my systems entering http://nas-ip-address redirects to https:/nas-ip-address/shares, not frontview.
Again, I suggest upgrading the firmware. There were performance issues with OSX systems with some old firmware releases (not sure if 4.1.6 was one of them).

Thanks Steve for the education. I am currently rebooting my NAS with 4.1.15. I'm hoping this may fix the performance issue. I'll let you know.
