Rsync backup fails
I’m trying to setup an rsync backup job from my ReadyNAS NVX to a Wandboard running Fedora 19.
I have configured the rsync daemon on the Wandboard and I’m able to successfully test the connection from my ReadyNAS backup job. But when I launch the backup itself I’m getting permission errors like this: rsync: recv_generator: mkdir "/2 Brothers On The 4th Floor" (in music) failed: Permission denied (13)
After a lot tinkering I’m now thinking this could be due to file permissions rsync is trying to copy(?).
Is there any way of knowing what rsync options the backup job uses for a given job?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDid you reset the permissions using the "advanced options" tab for the share (in frontview)?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced Userset the "set ownership" checkbox and then click apply at the bottom right. After a while you will see a popup telling you it has completed. if you miss it, you will see the completion in the log.
- delangeTutorI figured it out. Turned out that the rsync user didn’t have write permissions on the Wandboard side.
Problem is solved :D - delangeTutorI have another issue. It seems that rsync copies all files every time the backup runs. However, it should do that only once (first time) and later only copy the differences. I did a bit of searching on the matter and it seems that rsync has a bug with NTFS and FAT systems. See ftp://ppp.samba.org/pub/unpacked/rsyncw ... vings.html
There is a workaround by setting the option "--modify-window=1"
But I don’t have access to those options since the backup is configured through Frontview. Is there a way to modify the parameters rsync gets through the Frontview backup tasks? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt would be very useful if --modify-window could be set. Though I know of way to do that.

It sure would. I’m surprised that no one else asked for this feature to be added. There must be more people who are backing up to a fat drive?
Anyway, I have created a script that I can run manually from SSH. Not the most attractive solution but it does the job for now. I guess changes are very small for Netgear to add new features to the NVX since it has been replaced with new products. :?
