Normally you would use rsync incrementally. Then it looks at the file name, size, and modification date in the directory of both systems. If a file's size and timestamp don't match (or if the file is new), then the file is copied. Otherwise it is ignored.
Also, note that SSD wear only occurs when writing to your Mac. Reads on the SSD are not a concern.
