You'd probably find it hard to get a RN314 now. You may prefer to have a look at the RN424 from our new RN420 series. The OS is the same, but the hardware is newer.
Recovery time is an important factor with remote backups and one that is often overlooked. A cloud backp can work well for incremental backups but if you need to restore the lot in a hurry that could be problematic. Also if the Cloud provider goes bust or has a major outage at an inconvenient time where does that leave you?
I would use RAID on the backup NAS too.
It's up to you what you feel comfortable with.
Yes you can do the first backup with both units at the same site. This is recommended.
I'm not sure if that would work. It may still send the new files when the backup job is next run.
