Security for DLNA content?

Question

Hi, does anyone know if there's a way to restrict DLNA playback of videos on my NAS? For example if people on my wifi can see my NAS, right now anyone can view any of the DLNA content.

How can I restrict that to authorized users, or require a password?

I think DLNA Protocol do not ask for password . Only If you are connected on the same network you get access to the contents .

If you need restrictions turn off ReadyDLNA & use SMB protocol . Most media player support them as well .

OK, that makes sense.&nbsp;Is there any lightweight player for Windows 10 that can access videos over an SMB protocol?&nbsp;I got the Kodi player to work, but Kodi is a really annoying program.

How About Installing VLC on Windows and Browsing the content thru SMB path \IPADDRESS of NAS ? I dont know&nbsp;a lighter version than this one .&nbsp;

I use VLC myself. &nbsp;But if you map the NAS share to a drive letter then any player will work.

Back to the security question though - it is not very practical to secure the video files on the NAS if you access them with SMB. &nbsp;It requires
a) putting the secured videos into their own password-protected share
b) access that share by \NASIPADDRESS and the unsecured share by \NASNAME
c) be very careful to terminate the \NASIPADDRESS session after you are done viewing.

It would be easier (though not password protected) to put the secured videos into a hidden share. &nbsp;
&nbsp;
If you have plexpass, you could use plex on the PC (using the web browser interface). &nbsp; That would let you create multiple user accounts with their own access controls.
