Setting up ReadyNAS
Hi all..
I have now tried to install and setup my ReanyNAS 202 (RN202) and it has turned out to be impossible.
Firmware: 6.4.2
When I go to Readycloud.netgear.com and click "Discover", it finds my device.
That's it. I can't do anything else.
"New ReadyNAS discovered!" -I click "setup" and it asks me to enter the name for the NAS and the timezone.
But before I can do anything I get:
"Device communication error. ReadyCLOUD temporarily lost communication with your system...."
I can't get forward from that.
If I try to use the Offline setup, it asks me for a username and a password but it doesn't accept then.. And here is no "Forgot your un. / pw" option anywhere.
Netgear RAIDar does find the device and it shows all good...
Contacting Netgear's support has also turned out to be a challenge.. So I am hoping you guys might be able to help me out...
At the moment I have an useless Netgear device sitting on my desktop with blinking blue lights.. How cool is that..?

My recommendation is to forget trying to do the initial setup via ReadyCloud, use the offline mode. The fact that your unit's firmware is very out of date may be a factor with ReadyCloud, so we need to get you into it and do an update.
Is this a new unit? If so, the user name should be admin (which it always is) and the password is password. Those are case sensitive. If it's not new (including the drives installed), then the previous owner may have set a different password. You will need to do a OS re-install (only resets a few things, including admin password) or Factory Default (as the name implies, resets it to like new, wiping everything including the data -- a good choice for a new-to-you used system). Then try the local login again. Once in, update the firmware as soon as it gives you the opportunity.
Instuctions on getting into the boot menu for these options are here: How-do-I-access-the-boot-menu-on-my-ReadyNAS-102-202-212-or-312
