Slot Failure - Can I reuse drive?

I have a ReadyNAS 3200 with 4x1TB drives installed in a RAID-5. I got a warning that a drive was bad. I took out the bad drive and substituted a new one. After a while, the new drive also showed as bad. I took the new drive out of the slot and placed it in another unused slot. In the new slot, it worked just fine. So I assume the slot is bad. Can I take the original drive, which I assumed was bad, and place it back into another unused slot? I'm concerned that the drive is somehow "marked" as part of original RAID system and will not be overwritten but instead will "confuse" the ReadyNAS.

Delete the volumes on a PC, and then there is no possibility of confusion.
