Slow transfer in an odd situation

How are you doing the transfer? If you are doing it through a normal NFS / CIFS share, drag'n'drop may well be sending the file through your PC /Mac and then back again. So I would point my finger at the network connection, for example, max transfer on a 10 / 100 Mbps line is 11MB/s~, WiFi even less.
